More Than Handwriting

Our program incorporates 4 essential developmental skills needed for success and independence

Fine Motor
Fine Motor

Fine motor skills are the refined movements and actions of the small muscles in your hands, wrist and fingers. They can be broken down into different motor components such as dexterity, precision, coordination and grasp. Fine motor skills include using a scissor, grasping a pencil, manipulating buttons, and picking up small objects.

Gross Motor
Gross Motor

Gross motor skills refers to the large muscles and joints in your body that help you move in a controlled and coordinated way. They are important for building the foundation for other movements and directly influence the efficiency of fine motor skills. They include skills such as balancing, sitting, running and standing.

Academic Skills
Academic Skills

Academics skills are important to develop at a young age as they are the foundation for learning. Since the complexity of academics increases, it’s vital that children are given opportunities to build strong academic skills from an early age. These skills range from imaginary play and letter recognition to time management and organizational skills.

Sensory Processing
Sensory Processing

Sensory processing is the brain’s ability to register, process and respond appropriately to sensory stimuli from the environment. Our sensory systems are comprised of sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch, vestibular and proprioception. Using a multisensory approach allows children to make deeper connections and learn concepts in a richer manner.

Behind the Play

OT with Me, created by Melissa Putterman Spitz, M.S. OTR/L, uses play as a tool to engage children in the most natural way possible. Melissa’s approach is functional, creative and supportive. She shares her knowledge and expertise, empowers parents and offers children endless opportunities for learning.

Right For You

As parents, we may not know how to do everything, but we know what our kids need.
Adventures in Handwriting is the right place for you if

Your child has difficulty writing the letters in their name
You’re ready to teach your child their letters, but don’t know how
You’re looking for beneficial screen time that promotes learning
It’s hard for your child to hold a marker or pencil correctly
You want to prepare your child for school
It’s hard for you to read your child’s handwriting

Who it's For

Parents

We aren't experts in everything we teach our kids. Adventures in Handwriting bridges that gap. The program is designed for children of all ability levels. It’s educational, engaging and a positive way to use screen time to your advantage. Whether you choose to join your child or let them watch on their own, you’ll both be learning fun ways to improve fine motor and handwriting skills.

Teachers/Schools

Adventures in Handwriting is a full or supplemental course curriculum for teaching lines, shapes and letters. It supports teachers and complements concepts learned in school. Children will benefit from performing a variety of multisensory activities, not just pen to paper practice. Teachers will learn new techniques to enrich classroom learning.

Therapists

As healthcare professionals, we want to ensure a child continues to work on their goals, even when we aren't there. Adventures in Handwriting can be used as a home program to supplement the skills being taught and practiced in your sessions. It’s a useful tool to monitor their progress while keeping them motivated.
